GALLERY OF ZANY DRAWINGS

This page features zany drawings, or "Groowinky's," done in a mad, childlike, unschooled style, mostly on discarded journal entries.  Some have been featured in galleries and art shows, and others were given or sold privately.

Originally, the name "Groowinky" was assigned to the mad self that produced these zany artworks, and he even signed earlier ones as such.  Eventually, the name came to mean the artworks themselves.  He even released a booklet, a collection of "Groowinky's," which he handed out and mailed to various individuals, organizations, etc.

“ART THIEVES”

There was a whole stable of people (mostly the fall-outs of upper-crust white culture) who had monopolized virtually every art form in existence.  They demanded that all that was created by pen or brush (or any other medium) conform to their rigid world-view, and all creations were judged from this perspective.  Clearly, these people had figured out that by blocking the flow of creativity, or by sealing it off to anything but a strict ideology, they could shepherd society more and more to their own way of thinking.  It was time to rescue art from these pretentious  art thieves.

many groowinky's

are inspired by nonsense

riddles or invented words,

and others by outstanding

exchanges or experiences

which demand expression.

in an era where so much art has been poisoned by ideology, groowinky's represent the power and beauty of pure, untainted creativity.

Quote from friend: “I went to an art exhibit last night which was held by two pretentious gay men,” confided my friend, “and I didn’t like them or their so-called ‘art.’”
